Banyan Tree Concert- Chapman Stick duo with Bob Culbertson

For those of you who happen to be on-island this coming weekend, I have a big treat in store for you. This weekend we’re having a birthday party for the Banyan Tree in Lahaina (it’s 137 years old for gosh sake!) and I’ll be performing in duo with fellow “Stickist” Bob Culbertson from Northern California. Yes- not one but TWO Chapman Sticks in duo! Like myself, Bob is one of the earliest players of this unusual stringed instrument and he is considered one of the world’s top players. We’ll be performing on stage in Old Lahaina’s Banyan Tree Park on this coming Saturday morning, April 24th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon.  hope to see you there. Mahalo, as always, for your support of my music on The Chapman Stick.

Mentioned in Toronto Sun article

I’ve been mentioned in a recent travel article published in the Toronto Sun newspaper. Click above to read it for yourself.

UPDATE 2/10/2010- The article also appeared in the London Free Press. Bloody good chaps!

Maui Sunset Song (new FREE video)

Here’s a short little video (3:28) that I thought you might enjoy. It was recorded on West Maui at a holiday concert performed on Christmas Eve 2009. The sun sets behind Lanai just as the song concludes. Yes- I can control the Sun! LOL 🙂

If you enjoy the video, please leave a comment. Or, better yet- subscribe to my video feed and you’ll be notified by email anytime I put up a new one. Still working on the new CD. It will be my tenth audio CD release in as many years. I’ve written a half dozen new originals for the album and there will be some great covers, as well. They include ‘White Sandy Beach’, ‘Daydream’ and even a Santana tune, ‘Flor de Luna’. I think you’ll enjoy the new CD and I’ll let you know as soon as it is ready to ship.

Free Holiday Concert and TV Special- You’re Invited!

I’m giving a free concert on Friday 12/18 that will be filmed for later broadcast on MauiTV1 (local affiliate for AmericaOne Broadcast Network and soon to be Channel 78 on Oceanic Time-Warner Maui cable) Here’s the press release sent to Maui Time and Lahaina News from MauiTV1:

Maui-based Chapman Stick solo musical artist Michael Kollwitz will be performing a holiday concert on Friday December 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Whalers Village Shopping Center in Kaanapali. The concert is free and open to the public plus the show will be videotaped live by producer David Noon and the MauiTV1 video crew. The TV special will be aired on Christmas Day before the broadcast of holiday favorite “It’s A Beautiful Life” on MauiTV1. The soundtrack will also be aired on “Maui Hits Live” through New Years Day. The concert will include holiday, original and other musical selections.
Kollwitz is an early pioneer of the two handed tapping method on an unusual American stringed instrument known as The Chapman Stick. Invented in 1974 by Emmett Chapman, “The Stick” sounds like two or three musicians at once, when, in fact, all the music is produced by one instrument simultaneously. Kollwitz was one of Chapman’s original core students and he has had numerous CD and DVD releases. Check out, Maui Hits Live and MauiTV1 on Christmas Night. The broadcast will be simulcast with MauiTV1 starting at 7pm.

MauiTV1 is Maui’s newest Broadcast Television Station, with it’s first broadcast on November 8, 2009 at 8:30pm HST. The station is on 24/7 and is the local affiliate for AmericaOne Broadcast Network.

More FREE Video – Blue Hawaii

Here’s another video I thought you might enjoy. This was shot live on the coastline of West Maui and if you look in the distance, you’ll also see the island of Kahoolawe. Let me know what you think. Mahalo for watching!
